Description
The grape hyacinth feels like a flower plucked from a fairy tale,
carrying a soft, sweet hint of milk.
Its blooms cluster tightly in miniature bunches,
resembling tiny grapes —
hence the name, grape hyacinth.
Yet it is not a true Hyacinthus,
but a perennial bulb of the Asparagaceae, genus Muscari,
native to Europe and Asia Minor.
It arrives at the first whisper of spring,
offering early pollen to bees awakening from winter.
Rare among flowers for its blue-violet tones,
the grape hyacinth holds a gentle tension between its melancholic hue
and its playful, elfin form.
It is no surprise, then, that it is often seen as a symbol
of hope and renewal after the cold of winter.
