Description
The daffodil (Narcissus) is a perennial, bulbous herb of the Amaryllidaceae family.
In Greek mythology, the daffodil is born of Narcissus,
a youthful and fair man who first fell in love with his own reflection in water.
Lost in the struggle of self-recognition, he cast himself into the water
and, in death, was reborn as the daffodil.
From there, the daffodil is associated with self-appreciation in modern floral culture.
In London, spring begins with the city awash in bright yellow daffodils.
In St James’s Park, fields of them bloom each year—
where Edward would tell Sandra,
“You don’t even know me.”
“I have the rest of my life to find out.”
If you receive a bouquet of daffodils,
it may be read as a message:
the light that is uniquely yours—
meet new beginnings with confidence.
